The Program for the Competitive Substitution of Imports (PSCI) promotes Brazilian imports from, and stimulates Brazilian investment in, neighboring South American countries. Recent successes include:

– Signing bilateral Memoranda of Understanding and creating an Executive Work Group (EWG) to encourage dialogue, monitor trade, clarify issues, and generally facilitate Brazil’s imports from its South American neighbors (memoranda have been signed with: Argentina, Bolivia Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay).

– Publishing the guidebook “How to Export to Brazil” in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

– Creating the PSCI working group, which includes representatives of the Secretariat of the Federal Revenue of Brazil; Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa); National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro); National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI); Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (Mapa); Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC); Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (INFRAERO); Banco do Brasil; Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae); Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and other institutions with a stake in import activities. This working group, coordinated by the Trade Intelligence Division (DIC), visits countries throughout South America to highlight and clarify procedures Brazil applies to imports, presenting workshops, lectures and seminars around the theme “How to Export to Brazil.”

– Publicizing South American export products and opportunities.

– Developing surveys that identify how South American export opportunities match Brazil’s import potential.

– Creating market studies and targeted statistical comparisons.
